Furniture covers for an Eco Friendly world
Green at Heart Sustainable Solutions LLC was founded in the summer of 2020 during the global pandemic. Green At Heart Sustainable Solutions (GAHSS) was formed to address the problem of waste created from shipping and storage of props and set dressing in the tv and film industry in the New York metropolitan market. Specifically, GAHSS aims to ELIMINATE the use of stretch wrap/ pallet wrap in the shipping of props and set dressing by using our patented and trademarked Wrap Wing technology. GAHSS is a minority and woman owned business who manufactures here in the US from responsibly sourced local materials.
Traditionally, furniture blankets are used to protect set pieces during transport in conjunction with bubble wrap and stretch wrap, a one-time use product. GAHSS has developed a process wherein blanket materials are used along with our Wrap Wings to create a reusable option for shipping set pieces that completely negates the need for stretch wrap. Having worked in the film industry for over 20 years as a Prop Master, Leadman, and on set dresser, company co-founder Nathaniel has seen the waste created from packing and unpacking props for the industry. Not only are the current methods of blankets and stretch wrap environmentally unfriendly, they are also extremely time consuming, labor intensive and oftentimes ineffective. Anyone who has wrapped a couch with blankets and stretch wrap knows that multiple blankets are needed to completely cover the couch and unless the couch is completely surrounded in stretch wrap, i.e. hermetically sealed, you're likely to end up with a couch whose protection is falling off. The moment the couch is turned over and put onto a furniture dolly, the blankets and stretch wrap begin to loosen. And by the time the teamsters are putting said couch in the truck, there's a good chance they have a mess of blankets and plastic wrap. Why, because when they go to lift the couch they inevitably end up pulling the protective materials off. And a minimum of 2 dressers are required to wrap the couch, dizzying themselves as they go round and round the couch with pallet wrap. By utilizing our universal couch cover only one dresser is needed to wrap said couch, it's completed in a fraction of the time, and produces zero waste as the cover is reusable. Whether it be couches, credenzas, tables or chairs, GAHSS has the specific products to address what we normally do in the world of set decoration. Why use bubble wrap (plastic), stretch wrap (plastic), and cardboard corners to protect a piece of wall art when we have picture sleeves that offer better protection in a fraction of the time? Even though the cardboard corners are reused, stretch wrap, which is a one time use product is needed to secure said corners. And it's not just a little stretch wrap that's needed as evidenced by 2 new rolls of 5" pallet wrap, conventionally referred to as hand grenades, being used to wrap one sets worth of artwork from a vendor, Bridge Props, recently.
Laurine, the second founder of GAHSS , is a 3 times master seamstress and the owner of Green at Heart Rugs. Laurine has been designing, making and selling custom braided rugs for over 10 years on Etsy. During the pandemic, Laurine partnered with Nathaniel and they began the process of designing and developing products whose goal was to provide effective protection for moving props and set dressing without creating a waste stream. Having realized the potential global reach of such an initiative, Nathaniel and Laurine worked with a patent firm to secure protection for their intellectual property and design process. The USPTO has issued U.S. Trademark Application Serial No. 90566977 for Wrap Wings and provisional patent application entitled FURNITURE AND ITEM COVERINGS AND METHODS OF MAKING SAME, assigned Serial No. 63/084,676.
The film industry is moving toward new green initiatives and we believe our products can help by reducing the one-time use products like shrink wrap and bubble wrap. Our products are simple to use, proven effective and are reusable.
